The Livestock team at Odds Farm Park have been very busy recently as all the goats in the childrens farm have just undergone their routine autumn vaccinations. The vaccinations help ensure they stay fit and healthy for kids to see on a family day out.

At Odds Farm Park youngsters can meet seven types of goats; Anglo Nubians, Bagots, British Alpine, English, Golden Guernsey, Pygmies (always a firm favourite for those on a day out with the kids) and Toggenburg Goats.

On family days out at Odds Farm Park you can even expect to meet some very famous goats. Two of the Toggenburg Goats, Sparkle and Crunchie, starred in the film Mamma Mia with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. Now grown up and mothers themselves, see if you can find them while visiting the childrens farm.

Providing great family days out, Odds Farm Park can be easily reached from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, North London and West London. To arrange a day out with the kids, their family days out website is www.oddsfarm.co.uk

Happy Birthday To Millie The Sheepdog

Millie the Sheepdog
Millie the Sheepdog

Millie, the childrens farm’s Sheepdog, had her birthday on 26 August and received a very special celebration from children on a family day out. The fun festivities all took place during the daily ‘Meet The Animals’ show and Millie loved the extra attention she received.

Millie belongs to Clare, the Livestock Manager at the childrens farm, and accompanies her owner into Odds Farm Park every day. She is now 5 years old and whilst often helping behind the scenes, can sometimes be spotted on a day out with the kids. Millie loves meeting visitors on family days out, so do please come and say hello to her.

Odds Farm Park is an award winning childrens farm and provides a great family day out. Easily reached from Berkshire, Oxfordshire, North London, West London and Buckinghamshire, more information is available from the special days out website at www.oddsfarm.co.uk

On Sunday 30 August in the Odds Farm Park’s childrens farm, 2 year old Belted Galloway Toast gave birth to Wally, a Belted Galloway cross British White. Wally’s dad was a visiting British White Bull called Winsome.  This is Toast’s first calf and she is being a very good mum, helped occasionally by her mother Honey who also lives at this farm park too. Very cute, Wally is now out playing with his friends in the fields for you to see on your next day out with the kids.

Alongside Belted Galloway and British White cattle, on a family day out you can also see Jersey and Highland Cows at this children’s farm, all of which are currently outside in the fields.  The Jersey cows are bought in during the winter months enabling children on a day out to see cows all year round.

Highland Cows Back From Their Holiday

Highland Cow at Odds Farm

Odds Farm Park’s Highland Cows, Kinkerbell and Nutmeg, have just returned to the childrens farm from their holiday and are loving the attention from visitors on a day out with the kids.

The mother and daughter duo have been away for a 7 week stay at a farm near Reading and, whilst sad their holiday has ended, they are very pleased to be back home with their other Odds Farm Park friends.

Highland Cows have been at this childrens farm ever since they opened 16 years ago and are always popular on family days out. With their thick shaggy coat of rich ginger hair and majestic sweeping horns, they are adorable and one not to miss at this childrens farm.

The breed was developed in Western Scotland to be extremely hardy. Whilst written records date back to the 18th Century, it is thought the breed existed much earlier than this. Other cow breeds to see on family days out at Odds Farm Park are the Belted Galloway Cows, the British White Cows and Jersey Cows.

Odds Farm Park provides a fantastic family day out and is easily reached from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, North London and West London. For more information to arrange a day out with the kids, visit the family days out website, www.oddsfarm.co.uk.

New British White Arrivals At Odds Farm

William & Wilma at Odds Farm

With a little help from the Childrens Farm staff, British White Cow Molly gave birth to a beautiful son on 15 August. Like so many births at Odds Farm Park, it happened nearby some lucky visitors on a day out with the kids.

The calf has been called William and, whilst fit and healthy, he is a bit smaller than usual at 65 cm and weighs 55 kg. Molly is doing a brilliant job of looking after him and both can currently be seen on your next family day out to Odds Farm Park.

After a smooth birth another British White heifer calf Wilma arrived on Tuesday 25 August in the early hours of the morning. Nine year old mum Jaunty has had many calves at this childrens farm before.  One of Jaunty’s other daughters, 6 year old Libby, still lives as part of the herd at the farm and is being a fantastic big sister by helping to look after Wilma too. Wilma will also be joining the Odds Farm Park herd when she grows up. Plus with more calves still due, lucky visitors on a family day out might even see one born.

British White Cows date back to the sixteenth century and have direct links with the ancient wild white cattle of Great Britain. There are between 751-1500 breeding cows registered by the Rare Breed Survival Trust and all the British White Cows seen at this childrens farm on a day out are part of an active breeding programme.
