Families on a day out to Odds Farm Park will love to meet new resident Igglepiggle pig, a Middle White Gilt who will be one year old in July!

She comes from a breeder in Essex who shows Gloucestershire Old Spots, Tamworth and Middle White pigs at agricultural shows and one of her Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs won Supreme Champion at a show! Visitors on a day out can meet Igglepiggle at present in the Undercover Animal Barns.

Visitors on a day out will also be interested to learn that the Middle White can offer a unique breed characteristic – a short nose that makes it ideally suited for grazing, as opposed to rooting.  It is able to obtain a considerable part of its dietary requirements from grass alone, except in extreme weather conditions. The sow is an excellent, milk-yielding mother, being extremely caring of her young, yet generally placid and easy to handle.

Elkie is just one big fluffy bundle of cuteness and looks like a huge cuddly toy.  Mum, Piper, arrived at Odds Farm Park in the Summer of 2009 and this is her second foal.  She is a fantastic mother and bonding with Elkie extremely well. The new arrival to the children’s farm will drink his mother’s milk for about six months, before starting to eat grass and hay as well.
