FARM ATTRACTION OF THE YEAR

Celebrations all round!  The National Farm Attraction Network (NFAN) has announced Odds Farm Park as the winner of the “Farm Attraction of The Year 2017”!

A delighted team of staff from Odds Farm Park attended the NFAN Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton on Wednesday 1st February to learn of their fantastic achievement and collect the award.

Said Steve Vinden, Owner of Odds Farm Park:

“We are completely thrilled and honoured to receive the National Farm Attraction of the Year Award!  There are some excellent farm attractions throughout the country and even to be considered alongside these is high praise indeed.

We are extremely proud of all our staff at Odds Farm Park in achieving this Award and would like to thank them all for their continued hard work and commitment.”

With over 200 farm attraction members of NFAN in the UK, this prestigious award was presented to the farm for leading the way in terms of both innovation and quality and who provide outstanding customer service and a commitment to improving their visitor experience.

The recognition comes hot on the heels of Odds Farm Park winning the Silver Award for the Café/Tea Room of the Year at the Beautiful South Awards in November 2016.

NEW ARRIVALS FOR EMILY!

Congratulations and celebrations!  An early Christmas present arrived for the Farmers at Odds Farm Park in the form of an adorable litter of piglets!

Born to mum Emily, a Gloucestershire Old Spot sow, the super cute new arrivals are Gloucestershire Old Spot cross Tamworth pigs and are settling in well to life on the farm!  Visitors can meet them in the Undercover Animal Barns and will recognise them by their black spots and noisy oinks!

Children will be interested to learn that the the Gloucestershire Old Spot breed of pig originated from the Berkeley Vale on the south of the River Severn. They were frequently kept in orchards earning the nickname “The Orchard Pig” and there is a legend that says their black spots are actually bruises from falling apples!  The breed of Tamoworth pig comes from the Midlands, originating from crossing imported pigs such as the Red Barbadan or Axford.

As well as plenty more furry friends to meet, this Christmas Holiday, children will love to take part in the Daily Animal Activities and Demonstrations. Combined with the Indoor Play Barn, acres of Outdoor Adventure and madness and mayhem from the Crazy Entertainers, there’s so much fun at Odds Farm Park!

PLEASE NOTE, Odds Farm Park closes at 3.30pm on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, so last entry is at 2.30pm and on these days, there will be no entertainer. Odds Farm Park is also closed on 25, 26 December and 1 January 2017.

Family day out favourite, Odds Farm Park is easily reached from Beaconsfield, Amersham, Chesham, Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe, Great Missenden and Wendover. For more information, directions and prices visit the family days out website www.oddsfarm.co.uk

Meet Ginnie’s Piglets

We are so excited! On 28 August, beautiful Ginnie, our Berkshire sow gave birth to an adorable litter of cheeky piglets who are settling in well to life on the farm! Both dad, Squidgey, a Tamworth boar, and mum are extremely proud.

Visitors to the farm will be interested to learn about the breeding of the new arrivals. Berkshire Pigs were discovered in Britain in the 17th Century and they are the oldest recorded pedigree pig breed in Britain.  They are categorised as “Vulnerable” by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust with between 200-300 breeding sows remaining.  Berkshire Pigs are easy to identify by children on a day out. They are all black with white ‘socks’, white tail and a white mark on the face.

Tamworth pigs are also categorised as “Vulnerable” by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, again with between 200-300 breeding sows remaining. They were originally bred in the Midlands by crossing imported pigs such as the Red Barbadan or Axford,  Children can recognise a Tamworth pig on their day out at Odds Farm Park by their lovely red-gold colour, long snout and pricked ears.

Odds Farm Park is located just minutes from Junction 2 of the M40, and is easy to reach from all over Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Middlesex, West London, North London and the South East . For more information, visitors should call 01628 520188 or visit www.oddsfarm.co.uk.
