Pinky And Perky Double Celebrations

Those on a family day out at Odds Farm Park are in for a very special treat.  Clever sisters Pinky and Perky have each given birth this summer to a litter of pure Gloucester Old Spot
piglets within the childrens farm.  In fact these are the first pure Gloucester Old Spot births since they were born at the farm in June 2009; a double celebration.

Both sets of piglets are on show for visitors to see on their family day out.  Taking care of their new arrivals very well, this is the first litter for both Pinky and Perky.

Gloucester Olds Spots are the oldest spotted pedigree pig breed in the world and the females make great mums.  Just like Pinky and Perky, Gloucester Old Spots have lovely placid characters and are very laid back.

This summer has seen plenty more new babies in the Childrens Farm  at Odds Farm Park.  Alongside piglets, children on days out can also see the rare twin British White calves, baby goats and the cutest Shetland foal.  Make sure you don’t miss them on your family day out!

Odds Farm Park is easily reached from all over London (although closest to West London and North London), Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire.  For more information to plan your day out, visit the family days out website at www.oddsfarm.co.uk

Double Trouble As Rare Twins Born At Odds Farm Park!

Children on a day out to Odds Farm Park are in for a real treat as the farm are celebrating the rare birth of twin British White calves. A first for the farm, the wonderful surprise awaited the Livestock Team early yesterday morning (Thursday 18 August) as they arrived to find that clever mum, seven year old Libby, had given birth all by herself in the field.Twins are very unusual for cattle, with multiple births having odds of only 1 in 200 for beef cattle and 1 in 50 for dairy cattle. British Whites are one of the oldest breeds of cattle in the UK and claim direct links with the ancient indigenous wild white cattle of Great Britain. They were originally dual purpose cattle but are now bred for beef alone.

The new arrivals, one female and one male, have been named Adelaide and Darwin. And children who visit the farm will see that they are very cute, extremely friendly and currently below 70 cm in height! The calves are settling in well with the rest of the herd and can now be seen by children on a day out.

Said Clare Middleton, Livestock Manager of Odds Farm Park “We were delighted to find out that Libby had given birth safely in the field. It is an extremely rare occurrence that British White cows should have twins and is certainly a first for us here in our 17 years at Odds Farm Park!”

Elsewhere at Odds Farm Park you are never short of things to do on a day out. With a continuously changing programme of Animal Activities and Demonstrations, children can see more new baby animals, watch the Cow Milking Demonstrations, help with Egg Collecting, feed animals in the Designated Feeding Area and watch the ever popular Sheep and Goat Racing! Whilst outside, there’s plenty more fun to have with the Outdoor Log Play Areas, the Adventure Maze, Tractor & Trailer Rides, Go-Karts and more.

Orphaned Goat Becomes Dog’s Best Friend

Archie and Millie at Odds Farm Park
Archie and Millie at Odds Farm Park

Archie, an orphaned Pygmy goat at family day out favourite Odds Farm Park has become best buddies with “Meet the Animals” star, Millie the Sheepdog.  Following Millie around like a little puppy, the pair have formed a very close bond and whilst Millie can’t replace his mother, Archie does enjoy nuzzling with her.

Black and white in colour, just like Millie, and standing at just 30cm high, Archie is currently being bottle fed by the Livestock Team.  It is hoped that he will eventually join the “Meet the Animals” Show alongside Millie so that children on a day out can meet him.

In addition to Pygmy goats, those on a family day out can also see rabbits, cows, donkeys, pigs, sheep, ponies and chickens. It’s a farmyard full of fun! And no visit is complete without a play in the indoor Playbarn with the Bale Climb, Astra Slide and Ride-on Toys.

Family days out at this award winning children’s farm now include meeting newborn Highland calf Amber. Born in the early hours of the morning a couple of weeks ago, the farm staff found Amber curled up next to her mum Kinkerbell when they arrived.

This is the second Highland calf to be born recently at this children’s farm and also makes Kinkerbell a grandmother. Kinkerbell’s other daughter, Nutmeg, gave birth to calf, Ariel, just ten days previously. The kid’s farm has never had two Highland cows born so close together before.  Plus with two little Jersey calves too, there’s many cute baby calves to see. The new Highland calves are now in the fields and the Jersey calves are in the new Animal Barns for children on a day out to see.
